Jallatte's Jalaska SAS
The reference rigger boot
in the oil industry
press release << Previous page

October 2003

Working on an offshore rig, on an onshore oilfield, on a storage area or a refinery is risky...
In the oil industry, all the professionals are exposed to many risks and have to cope with particularly tough working conditions.
Jallatte designed the Jalaska boot specially for them. And this explains the great success of a unique footwear: more than 2 million pairs of shoes were sold since it was created.
Endorsed even in the most remote places on the world, the Jalaska boot success lies in the high performance of its Softane™ sole and in an extremely hard-wearing leather, the AP 23™ - manufactured in a French tannery that belongs to the Jallatte Group.

A response perfectly adapted to particularly hard working conditions

Oilfield professionals are exposed to hard working conditions:
  • extreme and changing weather conditions (warm/cold, dry/humid),
  • contacts with aggressive products (hydrocarbons, grease, chemicals, ...),
  • displacements on all types of surfaces (wooden or metallic duckboards, tanker decks, drilling rigs, ...) and grounds (muddy or sandy, uneven, steep, ...),
  • distant and extended missions that require a reliable, hard-wearing and long lasting equipment.
Jallatte created the Jalaska SAS boot to adapt such specific environments: a successful challenge, thanks to the perfect combination of both the recently redesigned Softane™ sole and the AP 23™ leather exceptional quality.

The dual density Softane™ sole: an alliance between safety and comfort

Jallatte developed the dual density Softane™ technology to conciliate within the same sole various properties such as resistance to abrasion and a great flexibility.
The sole base is fluid-resistant, hard-wearing, chemicals and hydrocarbon-proof; it can resist repeated flexions and prevents from slipping (multidirectional and self-cleaning studs).
The comfort layer, which is in contact with the foot, provides a great comfort: it is soft and flexible, thermally insulated, shock-absorbing (the boot heel incorporates a progressive shock-absorber), it is light and protects from ground asperities.

The Jalaska SAS boot heel has a round-shaped support surface, for a better walking motion. The comfort part has a more wrapping profile for a better lateral holding of the foot.

The AP 23™ leather for optimal performance

The Jalaska SAS upper is an exclusive Jallatte patent. It is made of AP 23™ leather from the Jallatte Group's BCS tannery. The AP 23™ is a natural, undressed leather, oil- and water-repellent. It is 10 to 15% thicker than most of the other leathers generally used for safety footwear (2,4mm). Its capacity to resist steam penetration is three times greater than the EN 344 standard specification (180mm/60mm) - and this makes it resistant to fluid projections.
The AP 23™ is entirely natural (waxed finishing): it can sometimes show tiny imperfections on the surface, but guaranties an excellent flexibility and long lasting wear.

The EN 345-1 S3 standard
